Moving to Klosterøya

We're moving!! Finally after more than 2 years of planning it's final. We in Frost Innovation have been pretty deep into the project of "samlokalisering" (joint localization) of ISV companies here in Porsgrunn/Skien and finally it's settled. We've decided upon sharing an office with another small consultance startup company in one of the really nice offices in the earlier main factory of Union.

Klosterøya IKT-Grenland

If you look at the above image then in the upper/right corner of it will be the location of our new office as of from roughly January/February 2008. The water around the island is the river of Porsgrunn/Skien (don't make me choose side on that one ;) and the difference in height above sea-level is actually more than 7 meters between above the island and below it.

The whole island used to be used to manufacture paper in the days of "Union" which shut down their last parts of the factory about 2 years ago. To the left of the big factory building will come an IKT-Grenland "lighthouse building" in a couple of years but I also have a very strong confidence in what the builders are doing with the old factory building.

We'll end up sharing 130 square meters with another company of four people so the space for uss will be awesome compared to what we're used to.

I am really looking forward to this shift of location for us in Frost Innovation. Klosterøya is an island with more than 1000 years of history of commerce and trade and it is located five minutes walk away from the center of Skien.

Other companies which are moving there together with us are eZ Systems, GAT-Ship, 24SevenOffice and many more. It'll basically be a brain factory for web and Open Source technology.
